Placement Opportunities
We offer two practicum placement models to meet different learning goals:
Available Positions
Foundational Practicum (Virtual)
- Assist with client intake and initial assessments
- Observe a variety of therapeutic approaches
- Develop professional communication, ethical, and confidentiality skills
- Gain experience in outreach, clinic operations, and community engagement
- Support administrative and back-end clinic tasks, including website updates, social media management, registering clients with programs/services, and other clerical duties
- Placement model: Virtual
• Advanced Practicum (Hybrid and Virtual)
- Conduct 1:1 counselling sessions with individuals, families, and/or couples (based on qualifications)
- Assist with client intake and initial assessments
- Observe a variety of therapeutic approaches
- Develop professional communication, ethical, and confidentiality skills
- Support administrative and back-end clinic tasks, including website updates, social media, registering clients with programs/services, and other clerical duties
- Hybrid: In-person at the clinic and virtual; requires permanent residency within 40 minutes of the clinic
- Virtual: Conduct sessions entirely online
Availability (Hybrid and Virtual): one evening per week, with additional weekend times as required for group work or other clinic activities
Student Responsibilities & Learning Opportunities
- Deliver 1:1 client work and/or support group sessions (Advanced)
- Assist with client intake and assessments
- Observe a variety of therapeutic approaches
- Participate in clinic operations, outreach, and community engagement
- Support administrative and back-end clinic tasks, including website updates, social media, client registration, and other clerical duties
- Apply academic knowledge in a professional private practice environment
- Demonstrate professionalism, self-direction, and initiative
Requirements for Both Placement Levels
- Master’s-level student in Social Work or Psychotherapy who has completed all coursework for program requirements
- Prior experience working 1:1 with clients (required for Advanced)
- Registration with CRPO as a qualifying member
- Knowledge of client care software, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and email
- Timely communication: Ability to respond promptly and professionally to client and clinic communications
- Self-directed, resourceful, and able to work independently
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Commitment to ethical, client-centered, and trauma-informed practice
- Modalities: Familiarity with specific types of psychotherapy (DBT, EFT, trauma therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, etc.) is preferred. Students without prior training are expected to enroll in relevant courses or training at their own expense.
- Student Expenses: Any costs for training, certifications, or licenses directly related to the student are the student’s responsibility and not the clinic’s
- Jane App Experience: Previous experience using Jane App is an asset. All students will be required to complete a Jane App training session provided by the clinic
- Current police records check and two professional references
- A professional headshot is required. Hybrid students are required to use our recommended photographer, while virtual students’ headshot requirements will be discussed individually. Students are responsible for any associated costs
